The nicest kitchen in all Melrose

These clients are collectors, specializing in decorative artifacts from the 1950s.

They needed some help designing a kitchen in the modernist style, which, since we love modern art, we were all too happy to provide. We built the cabinets in a simple plain sawn maple, and stained them Minwax “Golden Oak”. The floor is honed carrara marble,

And the countertops are honed granite.

There’s a little baking area next to the expresso machine with a white carrara top.

The lighting fixtures are from their collection.

The lavoratory is behind an “invisible” door.

The butler’s pantry, with new cabinetry on one wall.

They liked the subway tile effect of the bricks behind the stove, so we had the honed white carrara marble sawn to match the pattern.

We love the color scheme, which the clients picked themselves.

That’s quite a faucet!

This kitchen was an older 80's renovation with flat doors, so we made new ones which are more in keeping with the South End style of the house.
We built this little wine bar into a closet in the South End. We particularly like the copper top, which reflects the glasses and bottles very nicely.

This Cambridge client made a bold choice for her backsplash. It's a formica color which is actually laminated copper foil, treated with acid. We think it offsets the counter very effectively.

This Charlestown client was eager to use the space under the granite overhang which had been a former breakfast area, so we matched the existing cabinetry. This was a problem, since cherry is a wood that turns red/orange with age. We finally hit upon a hand rubbed linseed oil finish that brought the new wood down to the same color as the old.

Daynard Stove, Daynard toward pantry, Daynard across island back door:

Here's a cozy little kitchen we squeezed into a small space in the Back Bay. It's very contemporary
with stainless and fire engine red formica. notice the slate blackboard to the right of the
stove they can use for shopping notes and phone numbers. we were even able to fit in a breakfast
island!

Gold before kit 2, Gold kit 1, Gold kitchen 2.

Here's a before and after: this brookline home was suffering from a dimly lit kitchen with
steel cabinets! ugh! With the help of Jon Andersen Design and Metropolitan Cabinets, we made
it bright, efficient and airy.

Loveluck long wall, loveluck sink wall, loveluck cork floor:

If you're on a tight budget, and you want alot of style for your money, you can't do much better than IKEA, in stoughton, ma. This Belmont client designed her own kitchen, bought them from IKEA and then had us do the install. A craftsperson herself, she even installed her own cork floor, which is a lovely alternative to tile or linoleum, and very Green, since cork trees are a renewable resource.

We think the whole thing worked out beautifully.
