We designed this set of bookcases to fit around a pair of beautiful pocket doors that divide the living from the dining room. The owner liked them, and asked us to do something similar at the other end of the room as well. |

| Every once in awhile, we get a chance to work in a gorgeous room. This one, in the SouthEnd of Boston, is graced with some beautifully proportioned Cherry Door and window casings and a paneled mantel. Over each of the doors and on the mantel surround is an actual carving, executed with great taste. |

We designed a bookcase to compliment the fireplace and
the doors, and hand turned some small rosettes similar to the ones on
the fireplace to make the two designs resonate. The plinth block details
were actually made from a raised panel that went wrong, proof of the
fact that often, mistakes are simply opportunities in disguise. |

Bookcases are a wonderful addition to a living room or bedroom, and there are all kinds of ways to decorate them. I love books myself, so much that I have to stop myself from even entering used bookstores. The nicest way I have found to finish a bookcase is with a crown molding at the top, elegant pilaster trim, and maybe some additional trim on the adjustable shelving and the countertop. We have many molding profiles available to choose from, and we will bring samples to you of the moldings themselves so you can see exactly what they look like. It’s all part of the service we offer. |
